Final Pup-date for the Gee Litter! ๐พ
Usually these updates go out to the new RRK9 families, but we couldnโt resist sharing this one with everyone!
๐ถ Luka-Blaze made the journey by car ๐ all the way from Oklahoma to Florida ๐โand he was a total rockstar traveler!
๐ถ Ozzy stayed close to home in Oklahoma ๐and has already become best buddies with 10-year-old RRK9, Baron ๐คฉ. His junior handler has jumped right into training and is loving every second!
๐ถ Sora took to the skies โ๏ธ and made it safely to Arizona ๐. She was the perfect traveler on the way to the airport and handled nearly 12 hours in the crate like a champ: OKC โฉ DFW โฉ FLG ๐ฌ. Sora adds to our ๐ฏ track record of airline travelers arriving completely accident free!!!
๐ถ Sayla headed out today and is off to enjoy the ranch life in Oklahoma ๐๐ด. Her new junior handlers came prepared with great questions, and weโre so excited about this perfect match!
Weโre so proud of these pups and thrilled for their new adventures with their amazing families! โค๏ธ๐พ

โค๏ธ truly special
Today, the puppies demonstrated their trust in the Stay command. We like to start with Duration rather than Distance. This often results in rewarding very happy, wiggly puppies that are eager to be near us but yet doing their best to be passive and still in one place.
Training with any distance at the outset tends to set up the handler for failure.
Many people when teaching Stay automatically associate the command with distance. This approach is usually disastrous because, up to that point, the puppy has been rewarded for coming and interacting closely with the handler. If the handler steps away and the puppy hasnโt been taught correctly, the puppy is corrected or brought back to the starting point without a reward, leaving the puppy unclear about the mistake.
We ensure the puppy has a clear understanding of being passive and still in one place for a reward. Once this is established, we can begin to add movementโnot distance. It is the onset of movement that typically leads to the puppy breaking the (Stay) behavior.
Our primary focus with this age of puppy is Duration. We will begin to add Distance as the pup becomes more proficient. While the pup does encounter some Distractions while training with us we like to encourage the new RRK9 families start with Duration and a little Distance in their home environment before adding new environments or Distractions.
Todayโs small victory shows big progress: we were able to take a few steps away, hold for a count, and then return to the puppy with a reward, repeating the process multiple times.

So fun ๐
Wonderful
Meet Luka-Blaze, Ozzy, Sora, and Sayla! ๐คฉ Theyโre doing great in training! ๐ช
Today they lengthened their time staying calm and still on Stay, and theyโre becoming more proficient at working from the Heel position. We love teaching the pups to work from the heelโnot just in movement but in maintaining the positionโa true test of focus. That means they can Sit and Down from the heel and stay comfortably there until we cue otherwise. Proud of these little athletes! ๐พ

Celebrating RRK9 Sasha โ a beautiful German Shepherd who touched the lives of many. Sasha joined the Taylors at 10 weeks old after graduating our puppy training program.
I still remember that first call: inquisitive, a touch nervous, yet asking all the right questions. They wanted to do things right, and I knew from the start theyโd be a perfect fit for our dogs and our program.
Over the years, she visited for โDoggy Vacationsโ about 3โ4 times a year, sometimes more.
Itโs hard to put into words what an honor itโs been to watch her grow up with the Taylors.
Before her stay, they would ask, โDo you want to go see Sam?โโand that was all it took to let her know she was about to head to Red Rock K9. Though she began life here and was first loved here, we were honored to be called her second family.
She knew the ropesโthe faces, the sounds, the giggles, and the occasional barks of excitement that echo the walls. Sasha carried the Red Rock K9 spirit in every momentโshe loved her toys, sprinting with them, and she always sported those bandanas at the start of each doggy vacation. Her bright energy filled the atmosphere.
Weโll miss her deeply, and weโre grateful to have shared in her journey. Dogs have a way of reminding us that life is short, and Sasha showed us how to face it with positivity, grace, and a gift for living in the moment.
To the Taylor family, our hearts are with you. Weโre honored to have known Sasha and to have shared in her journey with you. Her joyful spirit will live on in our memories.
Wonderful dog, wonderful family.
What an incredible journey. She will always be remembered here.
With love from all of us at Red Rock K9
